Abstract: <\/strong>Many universities in Japan require EFL instructors to list academic publications on their CVs\u2014even for adjunct positions. However, many instructors struggle with research productivity due to institutional, cognitive, and social barriers (Aydin et al., 2023; Hartley, 2008; Murray, 2013). The literature on academic productivity identifies these challenges and highlights the behaviours of highly productive scholars (e.g., Ahmad et al., 2022; Mayrath, 2007), offers theoretical frameworks (Kempenaar & Murray, 2016), and provides practical advice. These include how to build consistent writing routines, manage time, select and sustain projects, deal with emotional hurdles, and develop networks that support long-term scholarly output (Aydin et al., 2023; Hartley, 2008).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this interactive 45-minute workshop, we will introduce research-based approaches and share practical lessons from our own efforts to maintain a productive research life while maintaining work-life balance. We will begin by inviting participants to reflect on their individual goals, needs, and challenges. We will then introduce a variety of strategies that can be adapted to different working styles and contexts. Whether participants are aiming to publish their first article or looking to boost writing momentum, this session will offer practical tools and encouragement. There will be 15 minutes allotted for Q & A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bios<\/strong>: Julia Kimura, Ph.D, is an associate professor in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Mukogawa Women\u2019s University. Her research interests include communities of practice, gender, and productivity among ELT scholars in Japan. Her other professional roles include JALT\u2019s Director of Membership, content editor for JALT\u2019s Postconference Publication, and co-editor of the Recently Received column in The Language Teacher<\/em>. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and running\u2014slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tosh Tachino, Ph.D., is a lecturer at Aoyama Gakuin University. His research centers around the role of language between research and policy, and his current projects include AI policies in Japanese universities and research productivity among ELT scholars in Japan. His specialty in teaching is academic English for research publications, and he has helped both researchers and students (both L1 and L2) achieve their goals. His previous work has appeared in Written Communication<\/em>, the Journal of Applied Linguistics and Professional Practice<\/em>, and Explorations in Teacher Development<\/em>, among others. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
